The Apple Let Loose Event Livens Up the Latest Apple iPad Lineup

Just as suspected, the Apple Let Loose event held on May 7th has finally revitalized the iPad Pro line, upgrading its specs to perform better than ever before. The latest Apple iPad lineup includes a new OLED iPad Pro, iPad Air, Apple Pencil Pro, and a thinner and lighter Magic Keyboard. The new iPad Pro M4 chipset is perhaps the most interesting addition to the Apple ecosystem but the launch overall has been filled with excitement. The 2024 iPad Pro features the very same M4 chip, skipping the M3 entirely to be the first Apple product to put the chip to work.

Apple Let Loose Event in May 2024—iPad Pro Is the Star of the Show

The main Apple Worldwide Developers Conference event is scheduled between June 10 to 14, but we’ve had some major announcements and releases from the company already at the Apple Let Loose event on May 7, 2024. All of the big announcements from the company revolve around the release of its new iPad series, nicely packed with a collection of upgrades that were a much-needed change. The biggest addition to the latest Apple iPad lineup is the iPad Pro, its new landscape orientation camera bringing a smile to many faces with the minor change. That isn’t the only thing changing though, so let’s take a look at the 2024 iPad Pro features to get a sense of what’s going on.

The Latest iPad Pro Specs Include the M4 Chip, Landscape-Oriented Camera

The new iPad Pro M4 chipset is the central attraction of the device, built on second-generation 3-nanometer technology. The CPU has four performance cores and six efficiency cores and can deliver speeds that are 1.5x faster than the M2. Using the GPU architecture of the M3, the chipset showcases hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing capabilities. The chip is capable of cutting down power demands by half, making it a more power-efficient choice. The new iPad Pro M4 chipset also has “Apple’s most powerful Neural Engine ever,” which the company claims is 60 times faster than their first Neural Engine in the A11 Bionic chip.

2024 iPad Pro Display Specs and Design

The iPad Pro features an Ultra Retina XDR display which uses tandem OLED technology, combining two OLED panels to support its advanced brightness at 1,000 nits for SDR and HDR content, and 1600 nits peak for HDR. There is a Nano-texture glass option on the 1TB and 2TB configurations of the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models, which can help with image quality and reduce glare. The display is quite advanced for those who use the device for graphics and visual work, especially when paired with the Apple Pencil Pro.

Additionally, the latest iPad Pro specs also make it the thinnest iPad—or Apple product—ever. The 11-inch model is only 5.3mm thin and the 13-inch model is even sleeker at 5.1mm. Encased in a recycled aluminum enclosure, the device is available in two colors, silver and space back.

The Pro cameras include a 12MP back camera for vibrant Smart HDR images and videos, supported by a True Tone flash and AI features to simplify document scanning, leaving you with clear image results every time. The landscape-oriented front camera also showcases a 12MP lens with a TrueDepth camera system.

Latest iPad Pro Connectivity Specs and Storage

The USB-C connector supports Thunderbolt 3 and USB 4 for easy connections to a variety of devices. There is support for Wi-Fi 6E and 5G cellular links, which is useful on the go. The eSIM brings the cellular mode to the device for a quick connection and easy transfer of files. The 5G support does cost $200 USD more though.

The RAM varies between 8GB and 16GB and when it comes to storage, there are four storage variants of both the 11-inch and 13-inch devices—256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. The CPU on the 1TB and 2TB devices are slightly improved. The price of the 11-inch model starts at $1,000 USD and increases by $200 USD for each increment in storage size, except for the 2TB model which is priced at $2,000 USD. The 13-inch model starts off at $,1300 USD and gets capped at $2,300 USD. The Apple Let Loose event has revived the iPad Pro lineup but at quite a price.

New iPad Airs 6 Lineup Is Not to Be Forgotten

Repackaging everything the older iPad Pro had to offer, the Apple Let Loose event saw the more humble iPad Air get an upgrade in size and capabilities. The M2 chip that was previously present in the iPad Pro has been reassigned to the iPad Air, and these devices are now available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. You can now have a larger display without having to spend on the Pro version, designed with the same recycled aluminum as the more expensive model. There are more color options available with this one—space gray, starlight, purple, and blue—although the difference in the last three shades is minimal.

The iPad Air 6 launched at the Apple Let Loose event also has a landscape-oriented 12MP front camera and a 12MP back camera for high-resolution photos and 4K videos. Wi-Fi 6E and 5G connectivity are also supported by the device. The storage configurations of the device are almost similar to those that the 2024 iPad Pro features—128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. The 11-inch model starts at $599 USD, going up to $1,099 USD for the 1TB model. The 13-inch iPad Air 6 starts at $799 USD and goes up to $1,299 USD. Again, if you want cellular connectivity on any of these devices, add $200 USD to the price.

Apple Pencil Pro and the New Magic Keyboard Were Also Announced at the Apple Let Loose Event

Apart from the latest Apple iPad lineup, we were also happy to see the Apple Pencil Pro make an appearance after all the rumors we’d heard about it. The company puts it best when it states that, “a custom haptic engine delivers a light tap that provides confirmation when users squeeze, use double-tap, or snap to a Smart Shape for a remarkably intuitive experience.” The functionality of the Apple Pencil Pro is now much more refined and it has a gyroscope built-in for more control over its use. The device has Find My support so it can be easily found when misplaced and it can be stored on the iPads via a magnetic interface.

The Magic Keyboard has a floating design, built-in trackpad, and backlit keyboards, making it easier to use in a variety of settings. The older Smart Keyboard Folio is no longer compatible with the 2024 iPad Pro and while it still works with the iPad Air 6, it’s clear that the company is moving on from its potential to newer technologies. The new Magic Keyboard has an aluminum palm rest and a function row, unlike its predecessor. According to The Vergethis new version is not compatible with the newly launched iPad Airs—you have to use the previous first-gen version for those instead. These keyboards match the two colors that the 2024 iPad Pro features, silver and black, and are available in two sizes, priced at $299 USD and $349 respectively.
